    • Zinc
    • Iron

Let’s move forward to cooking now!

How to Make Baked Fish in Tomato Sauce

For this recipe, you must collect simple ingredients that are easy to find and most probably available at home.

    Ingredients

    • 1.5 lb white fish filets (halibut, tilapia, cod…)
    • 28 oz can San Marzano Tomatoes
    • ½ tsp fennel seeds
    • 2 tbsp lemon juice
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 3 garlic cloves
    • Garlic powder
    • Smoked paprika
    • Salt and pepper
    • Red pepper
    • Yellow onion
    • Parsley and broccolini

Once you have gathered all the ingredients, let’s start the recipe step-by-step.

    Step 1: Cook the Vegetables

Before you start, preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

In a frying pan, add olive oil on medium-high heat. Next, add sliced yellow onions and red pepper; saute them well.

Now add and smash the garlic cloves as it brings the taste to your food. While including garlic, sprinkle the smoked paprika, as the red always brings great spiciness to your food.

Cook all the ingredients for 5 minutes on medium-high heat or until the vegetables are tendered.

    Step 2: Make the Sauce

If you do not want to buy ready-made sauce, you can make it at home easily. All you need is a can of crushed tomatoes because red sauce for fish is always a great idea.

San Marzano tomatoes are the best option for making the sauce. If you do not have it available, you can also go for their substitutes. This tomato has a rich and fresh taste when you use it straight out of a can.

Ensure you use crushed tomatoes because they create an extremely chunky and creamy texture. Heat the pan on medium-high heat and smash the crushed tomatoes, then add a bit of salt and pepper for taste.

You can also gradually add the water if the sauce is too thick. People want the texture of the sauce according to their liking.

Step 3: Mix the Vegetables and Sauce

Once the sauce is ready, mix the veggies in the same pan you cooked earlier and stirred well until merged.

    Step 4: Prepare the Fish

Take four white fish filets (of your choice) and slightly clean them and peel off their skin.

Also, if the fish is already of good quality, then you do not need to pop up many seasonings. But, if you feel the need, add fennel seeds, garlic powder, a little lemon juice, salt, and pepper on both sides.

Once you are done, settle the fish in the sauce. Just tap a bit and spoon the sauce over the fish gently.

Step 5: It’s Time to Bake!

Finally, the last step has arrived. Insert the cast iron pan into the oven and bake for about 15 minutes. Set the timer; chop the bunch of parsley and broccolini for a topping.

When the timer goes off, slowly remove the pan from the oven and garnish the chopped broccolini and parsley on the dish (you can also use other herbs of your choice).

Your baked fish in tomato sauce recipe is ready to enjoy!
